The 12 Body Systems

The human body is made up of several different systems that work together to keep the body functioning properly. These systems include:

  1.   The circulatory system: This system is responsible for pumping blood throughout the body and delivering oxygen and nutrients to the body’s cells.
  2.   The respiratory system: This system is responsible for breathing and exchanging oxygen and carbon dioxide between the body and the environment.
  3.   The digestive system: This system is responsible for breaking down food and absorbing nutrients from it.
  4.   The nervous system: This system is responsible for transmitting information throughout the body and coordinating the body’s responses to internal and external stimuli.
  5.   The musculoskeletal system: This system is made up of the bones, muscles, tendons, and ligaments and is responsible for movement and support.
  6.   The endocrine system: This system is responsible for producing and secreting hormones that regulate various body functions.
  7.   The urinary system: This system is responsible for filtering waste products from the blood and eliminating them from the body through urine.
  8.   The immune system: This system is responsible for protecting the body against infection and disease.
  9.   The reproductive system: This system is responsible for the production and fertilization of eggs and sperm and the development of offspring.
  10.   The integumentary system: This system is made up of the skin, hair, and nails and is responsible for protecting the body from external damage and regulating body temperature.
  11.   The lymphatic system: This system is responsible for transporting lymph fluid and immune cells throughout the body.
  12.   The sensory system: This system is made up of the senses, such as sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch, and is responsible for detecting and interpreting stimuli from the environment.
